There’s a lot to be said of the utilization of space: the living room stands on its own; there’s modularity involved. The kitchen, in particular, is imaginative — a charcuterie inspired mixture of gray tones and butcher block. Stainless, too, in the appliances, with plenty of shelving to go around. A breakfast table, which serves all sorts of preparatory or recreational purposes. The bathroom… flagstone. A rainfall shower. Easy to keep clean, and friendly, thanks to high-profile windows. Accessible from either the kitchen, or the bedroom… Which is, after all, its own space. Large enough for a king-size, with room left over. There is enough organization (and clever separation), it turns out, to provide enough space for a day’s worth of work — even if the next residents are a couple — without running the risk of toes being stepped on. Here’s the deal, and, most importantly, here’s the emotion: remember, when you were in school, that friend of yours, who was a few years older, and was rocking an awesome job? And, remember how they had that really amazing little loft? The one that was close to everything, but was all, at the same time, its own deal? The one where personality got instilled like crazy, and the one they wax nostalgic about, years later? The one where you came over for a small gathering one night, and asked them, “How in the heck did you pin this place down? It’s just… perfect.” The one that you kinda secretly wanted, and maybe slipped a suggestion that said, “let me know if you move out, because I’d totally live here?” That’s this place.
