Conveniently located in vibrant downtown Athens, Farmer’s Exchange is just steps away from UGA Campus and all the Classic City has to offer. Historic Student Lofts: Farmer’s Exchange was constructed in 1897 by Billups Phinizy, a prominent local Athenian who took part in the construction of Clarke County’s courthouse as well as The Georgian Hotel. A grocer occupied the first floor and there were offices on the second. The rear section of the building was used as a cotton warehouse. Second story additions were added later, and Farmer’s Hardware moved into the building in 1972. In 1997, Farmer’s Hardware was beautifully renovated into loft apartments with a rustic feel of exposed beam and brick. Farmer’s Exchange provides uniqueness and individuality that other downtown lofts simply can’t offer!
